Smile Aluminium paint for French aircraft

Hi All,

this might have been covered elsewhere but I'm soon to be painting a Roden 1/48 Sopwith 11/2 Strutter as per the cover of the Datafile, but with the more recent suggested colour aluminium (rather than doped natural fabric). Does anyone have a favoured paint (or mix) for this French colour, preferably enamel but could be acrylic? I've some WEM Italian Alluminio that might be the thing.

Best wishes

At least Humbrol aluminium is quite dark. I'd rather use silver mixed with some very light grey in 50/ 50 basis. Pure metallic colours are usually too metallic.

Next aluminum machine I paint I'll be using the Talon acrylic paints. I've used them on the interior of an F4B-4 and they look great, and work very well. The only stipulation I've found is to apply them over a primer coat.

French 'aluminium' paint

Thanks guys - plenty of suggestions. The heart of it is getting that difference between a true metallic effect (as per polished cowlings) and the painted fabric/wood. 'Metal'/white or grey mixes or the use of a dull overlay seem to be the alternatives. I'll experiment with what I've got and report back.

Cheers
