Several sources, Sir.

I began with the drawings in my old Harleyford Reconnaisance and Bomber Aircraft, 1914-1918 volumn. I later received a copy of Mr. Ian Stairs' drawing of the type. I acquired a photo-copy of a handbook on the type printed in 1916 from the World War One Aeroplanes people, that has many useful technical sketches. There is also a trove of material on-line at Arizona models, here:

By the way, no two plans agree on a number of points, particularly the angles of the tail-booms. I wound up doing a scratch drawing that 'looks right' to me for those....

The tail-booms are not the original pieces above: I had got it in my head they were of wood, but finally noticed just before assembly they were made of steel tube. I had to make new ones out of round rod to replace the square section pieces I had prepared.

My Gallery
Amazing!!

Old man:
This is a real fine piece of work. 1/72 scale, my original thought it was 1/32 or 1/24 scale. Really beautiful.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Thank you very much, Mr. Abbott! You are very kind towards my efforts here.

I was a jeweler as a younger man, and the fingers remember tiny things. If I ever go truely mad, I will reconstitute my old bench tool-set and start making these in silver. I fear if I tried working in larger scales I would never get anything done, because I would try and do too much. In 1/72, you can do things by suggestion that would require more precise representation if they were half again or twice or three times as large.

I was looking through your galleries here last night, by the way, and am sorely tempted to a get an Albatross DIII kit and do one of the early 1917 examples you have shared, the three color scheme one. Your contribution to our community is fantastic, and though my interest is more in Allied types, I greatly appreciate it.
