What about the HAWKEYE DESIGN resin kit of the 1/72 scale Dr.1? I think it is a very nice kit. ANYBODY?

Buz (I know it is no longer in production)

Airfix: Too old, no details, wrong in some parts.

Eduard: A near perfect kit, especially the Profi Pack incl. PE parts. But: Wing undersides have positive ribs.

Roden: Overdone, as they tried to make F I and Dr I in one kit. Too much putty needed

Revell: We are talking about the newest release, not the old version from the 1960's (which is still available!). It matches the plans perfect, the injection moulded 08/15's are the best ever seen. No need to replace them with PE parts. Very good details in the cockpit area. Wing ribs are negative on the underside, but a little bit overdone. Easíly available, and extreme good value for the money. No 1 in my opinion, just a few millimeters in front of Eduard.

If the Eduard kit is 5 bucks more expensive, it's only 1 buck better in quality.
The new Revell kit is absolutely best value for money!

FWIW I did a side-by-side comparison between the Eduard, Hawkeye and Roden kits a few years ago:

For budged modelers there is also the Smer boxing of the Eduard kit. It has the same decal options as the Smer boxing of the ancient Merit 1/44 kit, i.e. Jacobs' all black with white crosses and Paul Baumer's Jasta Boelcke machine.

Was or is the Revell Dr.I in the new tooling version available outside of Europe? Did you ever see this kit in the US?

Absolutely! I have one I bought when it was first released. I agree it is probably the best choice for the money spent. I like the ribs on the underside better than Eduards. I also have the Roden kit and agree that it is much more complex of a build.
