Online Build Take 2 - Roden 1/32 Fokker F.1

Hi all,

Some of you may recall that not so long ago I built a Roden 1/32 Albatros D.III in the markings of

Werner Voss for fellow forumite and Voss fanatic PC777. See Here .

The Albatros was one of three 1/32 Voss-related kits that I agreed to build for PC777, the other two being the Roden Fokker F.1 and Pfalz D.III. I started the F.I a while ago (see here), and well, other projects got in the way... now that these are done, I have decided to get back into the F.I. In the previous build thread (which is locked now that it has been inactive for so long!

), I had completed the 110hp LeRhone engine:

Anyways, as I am on a bit of a deadline to get this one done before I move out of town in two months time (isn't life in the military fun!), I have put in a bit of effort over the last few days and I have now just about finished the cockpit with the assistance of the PART photo-etched fret. I also added some other details, namely the V-shaped wooden fuselage formers from plastic sheet, and wiring from fuse wire and solder. The rest of the bits are from the PART set, which was actually a little vauge in placement of certain items (I am reasonably sure I have the seat belt attachments wrong - you always find references once its all glued together!!)... other than that, it all went together quite well (in contrast with the Albatros D.III, which was a real challenge to get the cockpit in)... Anyways, the pics:

Next, it's on to major assembly...

Very artistic. I love that burnt iron color in the radial pipe thingees at the back of the engine, whatever they're called. How did you achieve that effect?

These are the induction pipes. The fuel mixture comes up these from the carburettor to the valves at the top of each cylinder. They would have been Steel or Copper tube.

Here is a bit of uh, er, a problem. The starting magneto is the object they tell you to put at the pilot's right shoulder. (should be on the pilot's left shoulder.) The "Bosch" starting magneto they include (that they tell you to put at the pilot's right foot) is bogus. It was designed for inline motors. As to why they included it is anybody's guess.
