Roden 1/32 Albatros DIII - The Build

Greetings,

Just another Roden Albatros DIII in 1/32. This time with woodwork as home made decals.

I'm sorry that I can't show this from the beginning, I wanted to be sure, that these decal coverings worked as I wanted them to. Besides, there are other, and finer, builds with interior views elsewhere here.

This is going to be a replica of the famoud D.2096/16 "Vera". The colour scheme on the lower wings isn't correct on these images, it was merely a test of the colours. The scheme will be laid out as described by Dan San Abbott in the thread about d.2090/16, for which I'm immensely grateful.

Despite warnings, I made these with the white "Expert Choise" decal sheets. I had some photographs to scale of some plywood plates, put them on a page and printed them on my HP Photosmart inkjet printer. After that, they had a couple of layers of Mr Metal Primer. Worked just fine.

Knowing that these decals have a tendency to show the white in the edges, I put them on by cutting them somewhat larger that the panels, let it dry a little bit and cut them clean with a scalpel along the panel lines. After finishing them all, I put various brown and dark grey washes in the panel lines.

Now for some details:

There were two difficult places with the decals. The first was the panel behind the cockpit on the top decking. This I solved with quite a lot of decal solvent and a bit of luck. The problem is, that it curves in two dimensions.

The next, and far worst, was the front lower panel. Thank God there is both the undercarriage support and a cover here. I split the decal in three, one division follows the front stringer of the etch for the undercarriage support, and one goes longitudinally in the middle. I think I covered this up fairly well, though.

Thanks for looking. Any comments or advice will be highly appreciated.
