Doug, hello,
i've been watching your efforts with great interest - I believe you have done some very useful work which could yield the WWI modeller's Holy Grail of a limitless supply of accurate lozenge covering, if one has the technical skill, an appropriate printer and the software to allow printing onto decal paper.
I have tried printing after resizing using an epson stylus colour printer and the results are encouraging - I have yet to commit to decal paper (my supplies of which are limited!), my tests only being onto standard print paper, but I have no doubt that I could end up with a useable product, although I doubt it would have the flexibility or ease of use of, say, the Blue Max decals (which I understand were printed using "elastic" inks).
I also fully expect that some manufacturer(s) will also use your work as a short-cut to producing their own accurate versions without the need for their own R&D. As you have placed your process in open view, for the free use of all then this should not be a problem. Indeed, if someone like Eduard were to pick up on it, it would at least mean that we would get some accurate lozenge in future kits!
If you were to move into the slightly more esoteric coverings (e.g. naval, night and Austro-Hungarian covering materials and maybe, in the A-H case, painted lozenge) you could take over where the late lamented Americal left off!
So, in short, I really appreciate the selflessness of what you are doing and the two possible outcomes (home production and commercial availability) are both to be encouraged. Please keep up the excellent work! I suppose that it would be too much to expect a commercial producer to reward you if they were to borrow your work, life's just not like that - but it would be a nice gesture - just in case anyone reading this is tempted (massive hint there!!!).
Thanks again,
Rowan
