Ok, Having now printed Wojteks images on clear decal paper and applied them to a pale grey (sorry, gray) painted surface, I can say that I am thrilled with the result.
The decal does darken a tad on the pale gray, but I think it looks a treat. I will post some shots tonight.

Cheers,

Hugh

Here is my shot at the lower 5 color.

The colors are a compromise between the original fabric that Hans posted for us, and the reproduction fabric being used at the Australian War Memorial. The dark edges were created by blending and darkening (only 3-10%) the colors on either side.

I cut the pattern to approximate what I saw on the photos of Gary's fabric. It is approximately 1/24 scale, based on an original width of 50 in, at 300 dpi (1/24 would be 625×446 pixels, I made it 624×444 to make scaling easy). I chose 1/24, because it is readily scaled to 1/32 (× 3/4), 1/36 (× 2/3), 1/48 (× 1/2) and 1/72 (× 1/3). This could also be used as 1/12 scale printed at 150 dpi.

You can build a strip of any length by adding copies above or below, The top and bottom are designed to match up with no overlap. If you plan to scale it, build up a strip full size before scaling.

This is the basic pattern that I used:

Steve

(Note: My program changed the resolution of the images, when I saved them, from 300 dpi to 28 dpcm, about 71 dpi. If your program uses scale for printing, this may cause problems. You can fix this by pasting it into a new image that is 300 dpi).

Here are some photos of the printed Losenge and the aplication.
Note that the contrast of the losenge is reduced on application over Pale Grey.

I will post more photos of the underside.

Cheers,

Hugh

Hi Olve,

I used Microscale "Experts Choice" Inkjet Clear Paper on my Kodak Easyshare Printer. It works quite well for a printer designed for Photos specifically.

I am still trying to hit on a 100% successful decal bonding solution.

Cheers,

Hugh

Hello Steve,

That 1/24th scale print of the lower Lozenge is great, thanks. That makes it workable scaling to 1/32. Do you have an upper section also? There is one "red" X on your post, not sure what that was.

Regards
Another Steve

The decals look good, the colors are nice . might be because your using the photo printer and it's giving you better color quality and definition .
