Hi Doug,

Some recommendations:
  • Flip the pattern left to right.
  • Tone down the outlining slightly. Use a lighter color for the outlines. Antialiased lines will give you a fuzzy edge.
  • Replace the dark blue-green with CDL or a light gray (Notice that it is the one color that did not bleed through on Gary's fabric).
  • Watch your alignment when you piece the strips together. This is easier if you maintain a set mark for the top and bottom of the pattern. I used the top of the left (right on the back side) yellow pentagon as my reference point.

Hi Doug,

CDL is clear doped linen, though unbleached linen would be a better description if the dark blue-green did not bleed through at all. If it bled through just slightly, the color would be a very light gray.

You might do one more lower sampling color from the fabric in Hans' photo.

Hello Doug,

While I am no expert on this subject, I do know what I like.

I like the WWI AERO.

It would be nice to see you do something with Hans' photo.

Are all four of your offerings from a accurate source?
Or are some of them interpretations?

A question for Dan-San and the experts:

Were there more than one supplier of Flugzeugstoff linen?

Did their lots ever vary? Enough to be noticeable?

Was there a "Daytime Dark" and also a "Daytime Light" upper scheme on the five color?
Was there more than one for the lower five color?

Keep up the great job, Jay
