Looking for an old magazine article.

I am looking for a pre 1969 article from one of the American based model magazines. It had to do with the application of the first Krasal industry (Microscale) 4 colour lozenge on three 1/72 scale Fokker D.VII kits (Revell?)

The builder / writer applied the lozenge decals in the three prescribed ways of chord, span and diagonal as described by the instructions. Of course we know this is in error today. I still would like a copy as it marks the first time that the Microscale decals were written up in an article. I will be glad to swap a download from my website for this.

Dear Steph

Sorry I know not of the Article, Except if it a FSM they have an Achive on their web site and you can find the Issue thru a search and Order it.

Thats how I found two refernce articles form them, One abouth how to correct the Revell 1/28th DVII and another about how to CHop and paste a Revell 1/28th Fokker DRI into a DVIII.

all THough Please refresh for us "What IS the CORRECT" Loz Fabric Bolt Application ?

I had a BA Instruction sheet showing it laid across the Fuselage at a 10 degree angle which Dan ABott pointed out as incorrect but I couldnt quite follow his expalantion of the Correct way it was laid on the Fuselage.

It makes sense to me IF it was laid Leading Edge to Trailing Edge on the Wings paralell with the ribs ? Is that correct ?

But simply in detail how was it typically laid across the Fuselage ?

Yours Mike

Pre 1969 would leave very few magazines. Maybe Scale Modeler, 1001 Model Airplane Ideas,( A short lived plastic model magazine), and perhaps Scale Aircraft Modeling. The only other choice I know of would be Squadron Magazine, also only a couple of years in publication. I have a freind who has the earliest years of scale modeler and I will ask if he remembers the article. I have the squadron magazines and will check those.

Yeah, I was wondering if it might be something like 1001 Model Ideas, or one of the other short-lived newsprint mags from that era.
American Modeler, a pub aimed at the flying model bunch had the first comprehensive article my young eyes saw, about '64 or '65, but it was for silk screening your own lozenge for big flying models.

Covering the fuselage?

MG Taylor:
Mike, The general practice of covering the fuselage is lengthwise of the fuselage. The exception to this is A.E.G. The panels were joined with the length direction of the fabric 90º to the upper longeron. With the Albatros built Fok.D.VII, the fabric was parallel to the lower longeron. Fokker and OAW the pattern was parallel to the upper longeron. My recommendation is study the photographs before applying the decals.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Greetings Mike;

Dan 's the fuselage layout of the loz fabric was in the same issue of WWI Aero as the Wally Tripp article on the differences of the Fokker D.VII types also by manufacturer.

ABT Decals had some sort of sort of description of how to apply.

There was also a manufacturer who did one-color sheets in layers. HisAirDec?
