Apparently I am not enough of an "artist" to keep this thread in the "Art" section of the forum. I figured if Augie Rodriguez could do it I could too. Oh well, I guess I am only a lowly "modeler"....

Dude, if you ever venture into the tween years, I'll put a vote in for Roscoe Turner, Wild Bill Hopson, Steve Wittman and Jimmy Doolittle. And Jackie Cochran.

Thanks all!

I am not sweating it. I am just wondering about a double standard where a guy who does a conversion of one of my sculpts can post his work in the art section, while my fully scratchbuilt portrait figure only qualifies as a "model".

Personally, I have always considered myself a modeler and not an artist in the broad sense. But stuff gets easily lost in the modeling section of the forum here. My loss, I guess.

Burl,

I already sculpted Doolittle from his racing days earlier this year. I did this one for King's Road Miniatures. I will be doing Lindberg for them next and Howard Hughes later on. I don't have any information on release date or anything. But here are pics of the master sculpture which is 1/32 scale:

Highslide JSHighslide JSHighslide JS

I know, it is only a "model"......

But it should look good next to your Williams Brothers 1/32 scale Gee Bee or Laird Solution racer models. Perhaps someday the 'powers that be' will see my portrait figures as an art form.

A modeler can only hope........

Cheers!!

Mike

Mike,

As far as I know, sculpting has always been considered art. Perhaps the moderator that moved this thread thought it would generate more interest under models, since your figures will be available to modelers in the future, and are scaled to go with airplane models. I don't think that it should be taken as a comment on your work, which is first rate.

Unhappy

Those who work in wood are craftsmen and those who work in bronze and stone are artists ,those who paint flowers on canvas are artists and those who do miniatures are modelers and on and on it goes.......Who the hell makes these rules anyway?
What does being an artist in the broad sense mean anyway?

Mike,
I agree with Dave. Please do these in 1/48th! I love your work and agree that they need to be done in 1/48th. I can dream also!
