It means being an Artist with a capital A. An Artist is somebody who provokes us to think. It is an artisan whose main goal is communication and causing us to see things in a new way. My stuff is pretty pedestrian in that sense....

A modeler is a craftsman who makes representations of real or imagined objects. A modeler is more interested in depicting things than in communicating with their creations. That makes me more of a modeler than an artist.

At any rate, that is my personal opinion.

To take a lump of clay or whatever and breath a certain look, character, attitude and above all life into it ,is Art and a rare gift of creativity at its highest level, in my opinion ,especially when it is done in miniature.Model on!

I know, it is only a "model"....
Mike, for what it's worth, you've made my day!

You are definitely on a roll with these portrait figures, and working at a level above most miniature sculptors today. A key sign is the relationship of the head to the body, and the body english suggesting characterization. Craftsmanship is part of art, but "art" consists of communicative decisions that makes the piece come alive. That these look alive even when only primered is a whopping big clue.

Mike, Really awesome work as always! As I said in another forum, How about McCudden for the Hisso SE in 1/32nd and 1/48th? And I wouldn't be me if I didn't add Phillip Prothero with a flight jacket and Kilt as a request
