Billy Bishop Portrait figure, 1/32 scale

This is a figure I did several months back that will soon be released by The Model Cellar: The Model Cellar

Highslide JS
Highslide JSHighslide JS

The figure is 1/32 scale and can be displayed with models in that scale. Does anybody have markings for any other Bishop aircraft other than his well known Nieuport?

Cheers!!

Mike Good

Hi,

Wow! That is truly incredible work. You've really captured the Bishop look and attitude.

By late July 1917, No. 60 Sqdn was re-equipped with the new SE5. Bishop flew SE5 A8936, which briefly displayed the very colorful flight makings employed by 60 Sqdn. Bishop's machine is thought to have borne blue wheel covers , and a blue fin with a narrow white outline. A similar white-outlined diagonal blue band appeared aft of the fuselage roundel, and the nose was also blue with white borders in a very 'flashy' style. There are numerous profiles of this well-known machine around, and Russell Smith did a fine painting of it.

As CO of No. 85 Sqn, Bishop generally flew SE5a C6490 and later C1904. I don't know about the letter which was displayed on C6490, but C1904 appears at the near end of the famous line-up photos taken of No. 85 Sqdn just before leaving for France. C1904 bore the white letter Z on the fuselage and upper starboard wing. It also had the usual white hexagon marking of No. 85 on the fuselage, and "C1904" was marked on the fin in white block characters.

Hope that helps. Congrats on a marvelous figure!

Greg

Mike:

You never cease to amaze me! An excellent likeness. You're best yet I think.

Cheers!

Thanks Greg,

I had forgotten about Bishop's SE5. Knowing markings for an SE5a is helpful, but alas, I think the Nieuport is a much easier build. Maybe I was hoping there was a Camel in there somewhere!

Thanks Burl, Greg and Tom!

Tom, are you hiding any new projects from us? Did you ever finish your baron figure?

There are more pieces that I have finished sculpting in the pipeline, but Paul has sworn me to secrecy for now......

Keep your eyes on this space!

Mike

Hi Mike,
Another Good job (pardon the pun). Will you be doing this one in 1/48 like the Voss figure? Would love to have him standing next to the Eduard Nieuport 17, and would also like to see a Frank Luke and Raoul Lufbery in 1/48...I can dream anyway!
