O.K.....so this is going to sound like a very basic question ...but I would appreciate your advise please .
I live out in the scrub ( this may translate to boondocks ...or nowhere'sville in some forms of english ) and I am having to order hobby item's from just a list with no detail . I can order a model putty called " model master red putty "....and what i would like to know , is this a good product ?. I'm afraid I don't have access to lots of different putty's ...so even if this is not the best product on the market ...then as long as it's a quality product then that will be good enough ....If it is just total junk , then your advise on some good products would be great ...and i'll just have to find a place somewhere that i can get them from .
Thankyou ...I know my questions aren't really very interesting or taxing for you guy's ...but your the only people I know who I can ask these sort of things about .
Thanks again.

Try talc powder and super glue. I am not joking. Works very well.

Easier...a little extra plastic glue...it sands off better than super glue and will not cause your fingers to stick together.

MM Red Putty isn't bad as far as putties go, but they all have a couple of problems. They shrink when they dry (meaning sometimes multiple applications), you have to wait while the solvent in the putty "gasses out," they don't work well on resin, and they tend to soften thin parts, especially vacuform plastic. Ross' suggestion is the answer to a modeler's prayers. Auto modelers have evidently been using it for years to do custom countour changes. (I sent you a scan of the original Fine Scale Modeler Tip article, where I got the "recipe").
"Supafilla" (my name for the concoction) has none of putty's disadvantages, and it's cheap! When dry it actually adds structural rigidity, so it's great for gap filling. One word of caution: since it doesn't shrink, apply just enough to fill the joint, ejector pin mark, etc. The more the build-up, the more you'll have to sand away. Hth, Rob

An excellent tip from Ross and Rob,
*That "Modeling Magician", Rob Owens turned me on to this a while ago. While I was a little scared of pouring superglue on a pile of anything, it has become my preferred filler. Wetsands easier than my old favorite "Squadron White" and reinforces also. Remember its a glue!
In the time I've been using it, I've some up with a couple pointers or tips that might help someone else. I found that using a ceramic tile to mix on worked great. Makes for a nice hard mixing board that is easily scraped clean with a single edge razor blade before the filler is totally dry. An off color makes the mixture show up better. Because you mix it yourself you can control the thickness. Thinner works great as a skim coat or as a fillet. *Another is to tell your family what the white powder is that's starting to show up in piles on a tile next to a razor blade on your work area. My wife was getting worried that I took up a bad habit....other than modeling. *

Salute All!
Steve

My builds have been on a bit of a strike for about 6 months. My was has been/is still sick with CFS. So between her and work I just about stopped model making. Didn't stop buys kits on and off though.

Also our Digital camera was broken so that it can't take pics. Long story and very upsetting as to how so I wont repeat it here. Besides to say I think this camera is cursed. So much so that I will go back to good old print film ones.

I have now had time in the last 2 weeks to sit at my model making desk and do some building. Both are WWI kits. But I am not saying which ones just for now. So I hope to have an update to my own builds on my site soon.

For me all cameras are cursed.

I still prefer liquid plastic glue because at least you don't have to worry about sticking your eyelid or fingers together if you screw up.
