Do you have a link to a website that we could see them on?

Ross,

For PJ Productions:

http://www.pjproduction.net/Pilots4.html

Good quality stuff. I've bought from there the Hurricane MK I bipale prop, and the 1/72 resin SV 4b: it's a really nice kit!

For those cheap skates among us,(like myself) who have a little bit of talent at figure conversion, I just found a great solution. I was looking through a model train shop called "The Choo Choo Barn". I found some packages of unpainted plastic "Sitting Figures". The package I bought had 24 figures. Twelve men and twelve women. Mock me if you will but the price for all twenty four was $2.50!
They are HO scale which is actually 1/87th but figures on this scale are always off a little bit and when I got them home and checked them against my models they turned out to be absolutely perfect.
In the past, I have already gone as far as making my own pilots from scratch using a combination of balsa, Miliput epoxy, and anything else that would do the job. The hardest parts are getting the head and face right and the arms and legs. In this scale it is easy to build up details even with paint. The clothing of a WWI pilot, when seated, appears pretty bulky and shapeless except for the collar which is easily done. A couple of carefully placed, flattend blobs of epoxy or paint over the eyes make excellent goggles when properly painted.
For those who may be interested, the maker of the figures is Circus Craft a Division of Craft Creations, P.O. Box 697,La Mesa Cal. The Catalog # for my figures is CWA1020. They also had a much larger package of the same figures available for about $7.50 with enough figures to last a lifetime.

Better yet. Just noticed on the bag a WEB site for The Choo Choo Barn. www.choochoobarn.com

Hey Bob,

That's not far from where I live. I'll have to check out the store. My father-in-law often volunteers and gives tours at the Strasburg Rail Road.

Regards,

How about that! Eleanor and I just took a ride on the Strasburg this last Tuesday! Did your father-in-law notice an ugly old guy with a beautiful wife in tow?
Hey. This has nothing to do with WWI pilots, but if you go to the Choo Choo Barn take a look at the animated model train layout they have in the building next to the hobby store. They have a scene where a model house "catches fire" and smoke begins to come out. A siren goes off and a fire truck comes out of the fire house a couple of blocks away. When it reaches the house three different firemen appear. They put a ladder against the house and two go up on the roof where one starts to chop a hole in it. The other guy is on the ground with a hose which he directs agains two different spots. The fire goes out, the ladder disappears, the firemen "return to the truck" and it goes around the block back into the firehouse. The display has a ton of other animated scenes too. Great stuff that any model builder would appreciate. All for a $5. admission. Oops! Forgot. That's the "Senior" fee.
