Hello everyone,

I am building an Eduard 1/48 scale Albatros D.Va, and I wanted to get everyones' opinion on what is the best material to use for rigging the control and bracing wires in this scale? I know that this has probably been asked a thousand times before, but I wanted to know if any new ideas have surfaced, or if there is a tried and proven scale wire available. I have only used sewing thread in the past, and find it very hard to work with. Any ideas?

regards

WW,
Nothing is going to be easy to work with. I tried useing plastic rod once. Never again. It's just too tedious to fit. I use invisible thread and the Duras method described on the WW I modeling page. It may not be the best but its the best for me. I intend to discuss with a plastic surgeon the subject of suture material. Invisible thread is .005 but control wires were a different size than bracing wires. I'll let Y'all know the upshot.
Best regards,
T.

Hello WW,

In the past, I used invisible sewing thread, but its fineness was only .006 and it's not in scale.

A few weeks ago, I find a new brand (for me) of fishing lines made in France and called Water King. The diameter of these lines are 0.065mm (or .0025 thou), 0.08mm (or 0.003 thou) and 0.10mm (or .004 thou). IMHO, it's the best material I've ever found but I doubt you can find it in the USA.

On another forum, we discussed at length on a same material called Day-Riki (IIRC) that you can find in the States.

Best regards from Belgium.

Philippe

Haven't tried this method yet, but it looks like it might be promising:

Good Luck, Rob

Thank you gentlemen for your imformative inputs. I will look into all of this and determine which method I can have the best success with. It may take some trial and error time, and hopefully I do not ruin the model in the process!

regards
