Scratch Building a DH-2

I'm working on a scratch built 1/32nd Airco DH-2. I am using the Albatros Datafile plans, but I have a question I hope someone might be able to answer for me. Is there a plywood bulkhead behind the pilot seat, or maybe a half former? The datafile plans seem to show none at all, but I would suspect there would be. None of the crashed aircraft photos in my references are clear on this either. Thanks.

Hi stoney

maybe you should have a look here:

Album:Blue Max DH-2

Ok it's a model (48th scale!!) but it should be helpful.

Possible Turtledeck Former

The photos I've seen indicate no full depth former behind the seat. There may be a turtledeck former between the seat and the fuel tank, but it's hard to tell from the photos I have. There is something above the top longerons to provide the turtledeck sheeting attachment, but it's hard to tell if this is an independent former, or the fuel tank itself; however, I don't think you would want to use the fuel tank as an attachement point for the turtledeck sheeting, so there must be a former there. Anyway, definitely not a full depth (top to bottom) former.

Maybe one of these card models may help act as a cheap reference.

They are pretty highly detailed, and almost at the scale you want.

Thanks boys, I appreciate the response. Looks like a half former topside then. Man! That's a beautiful 1/48th build.

Hi there!
Maybe you should wait a few months since Marc Guerrero of Contact Resin might be releasing one.
It's always a bugger when you start something and realize upon near completion that it's just been released by a model company!
Unless he went to work on something else (that would bug ME!)
Ciao

Well holy smokes. Thanks Iwik. I didn't know that. Well..guess I'll muddle along for awhile anyway, just to keep the juices flowing. Maybe that FE2b I've been wanting in 1/32nd then.

Thanks Doug, let me know if anything other than the half former in front of the tank is shown.
