Pfalz DIII Shoulder Harness?

Dear Gods,

I'm near the point of closing up the fuselage on my 1/32 Pfalz DIII. Before I do, the harness straps need to be installed.
A simple question for you... Do the shoulder straps attach to the back of the seat or do they come off the bulkhead arf of the seat?

Cheers,
Von Buckle

Hi Bob,

My understanding is that the shoulder straps run back to a spring attachment where the centre longeron meets the bulkhead behind the seat. If you squint your eyes carefully you can see the spring detail (the shoulder belts aren't illustrated) in this drawing from Flugsport on the Arizona models website.

Or, if the link doesn't work properly...

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Its interesting that the lap belts are shown draped over the seat sides in the drawing. But in the original image they are hanging free inside the the fuselage.

Bob, Here is a picture of my 48 scale D.IIIa's interior. The capture report from Flight is a very good source of detial on the Pfalz D.III.

Graham,

Cheers for the image.
I nearly made the mistake of using the shoulder straps with the bracing lower down like those used on the Albatros. Thank the lord I never!

Cheers,
Bob

It looks like I'm going to need to make my own belts. I've got the Toms modelworks Etch set which includes the belt buckles, what I need to know is the length of the shoulder harness for 1/32. Plus, how far over the seat will they hang?

Cheers all,
Von Buck

Bob,

I have the Part PE set for the Roden Pfalz and it includes shoulder straps. If you want a comprehensive set of details I would highly recommend the Part set. To get the size take 48 scale belts and photocopy them at 150%.
