Vector vs. Pavla 1/48 Mercedes Engines

Greetings!

Can anyone post an image of the 1/48 vector Mercedes D.III?

Does anyone have one of these? What do you think? Is it dimensionally correct? Are the details correct? How does it compare to the Pavla Mercedes? I read that the Pavla cylinders were a bit too tall.

All comments welcome.

Thanks!

Tom

Here's a few shots from the Neomega site:

Vector Scale Resin Model Engines

Sergey's work is about the best there is. All his rotary engines are true to scale - so much so that getting them in kit cowlings is impossible without sacrificing cylinder head detail or drastic thnning of the cowling - I have done both on the Eduard Sopwith Pup.

These engines aren't cheap, but you really do get what you pay for in this case!

I haven't seen the Pavla one, so can't comment.

Thanks, Rowan!

That is a thing of beauty! I'm definitely going to pick a few up.

Cheers!

I've got a number of the Vector offerings, and they look quite nice to me. I haven't got the details to confirm dimensions, but the Vector engines I have will add noticeably to my models (whenever I get them built!).

Vector motors are spot on as has been discussed earlier. The Pavala is supposed to represent the marginally taller 200hp Merc. D.IIIav. Also from another -very early - thread.

In vector crankshaft case is a copy of rodens from fokker D.VII. All above (cylinders etc) are beautifully cast from new masters. Definitelly worth buying!

Here is a comparison between the Pavla and the Roden kit parts. I have not picked up the Vector yet.

Stephen:

I got my Mercedes a few weeks ago. It is SWEET! There is some very delicate cast details. All parts look like new tooled to me.

I'll try to post a pic when I get a chance.

Cheers!

I have all but the LeRone 80hp Vector engines. They are by far the best IMO that is out there in 48 scale WWI engines. They are true 1/48 scale and some cowl adjustments will be required for most kits. I am using the Mercedes for the Special Hobbies Pfalz D.XII and it fits with out too much kit adjustment. My friend Tom Morgan has used the Gnome 160 hp and the Clerget to great success. BTW I have been trying to get Tom to sign up on this forum. If anyone out there knows him prod him to sign up.

Here is a pic of his Clerget.

I NEED a few Vector engines for sure. I have a number of Hi Tech Mercs. I'm not sure how accurate they are but the look pretty nice! The Vector does look better though.
I don't know if the Hi-Tech is still available. I can't seem to find a website for them.
