Encore Models Pfalz D.IIIa, anybody heard of it?

Hello everybody,

Has anyone heard of Encore Models? They have a 1/72 "econokit" of the Pfalz D.IIIa in Squadron mail order. It is a bagged kit in the markings of Ltn. Busso von Alvensleben with its WWII style insignia. I was wondering if it may be based on a Roden or a Mac kit or whether it is a new tool.

hello erikr , i think encore models were from brasil . they reissued several kits using other maufacturers moulds, i have a he112 from the range - ex heller , i don't know the origins of the other kits though . or that they did a pfalz ! there are very old kit mouldings around , the old 'skyways' one for a start - how about a piccie ?

I do not have the kit but in the flyer it says that it is from the US and it sells for around $6 so I can't imagine it being a new mold. I was thinking about getting it for the decals, I love the paint scheme.

Thanks,
Erik

erikr: typically Encore kits are a reboxed...rehash of another company's kit. (Hence the name) Squadron has issued several "Encore" kits all molded in a semi-brittle white plastic. The Airfix(?) Arado, the Cap Croix Du Sud Mig 3z6, and two Polikarpov kits that I'm aware of...having built them all. As far as I know this is their first venture into WW1. No telling whose mold they are using. I built a couple Roden Pfalz kits...they wern't as good as their later efforts. However they are probably worth the $5.99 (+s&h). JMO

I heard somewhere that Encore was owned by Squadron.

Maybe just a rumour.

I'm fairly sure the Encore IIIa is from Toko from the Ukraine. Toko had a nice series of 1/72 WWI kits going when they went bust. I wont bet my kids on it but I'd say its the Toko kit, they also did the latter III. I have one of the Toko N.11 kits and its a nice kit. Part from Poland even made, or still makes, a photo etch set for it that has frame work etc. a real eyeful for 1/72 scale

Hello Flypaper,

I would have to check an older catalog, but I have never seen and don't remember TOKO offering any Pfalz other than the D.XII.

Hello EricR,

Yes I have heard of it.
SEE: What is the origin of this kit?

Toko's successor Roden did the D.III and D.IIIa.
My guess is Encore reboxed the Meikraft kit which in turn was based on a Czech resin sold in a clear plastic bag. If you were lucky you got a handwritten piece of paper with the name of the plane.
