Hi all,

I found the following tip at the Aircraft Resource Center web site:

Make that decal get down: Everyone knows about diluted white glue to make stubborn decals stick... right? What a gloppy, thick mess. Next time the decal refuses to sit down, try this: dip the decal and its backing paper in Future floor polish. Blot off the excess and place it the model. The Future will pull the decal down and will dry rock hard in a thin layer with no silvering.

Has anyone tried that technique, and if so, does it work?

So, if you soak the decal with its backing paper in the Future floor wax, does the backing paper separate like it does in water?

Does this technique work on flat paints too?

I haven't tried soaking the decal in Future. *However, what I do - after applying a coat of Future to the model first and letting it dry (the current way of thinking) - is to apply a puddle of Future (make sure it's enough to cover the entire area where the decal will lay), apply the decal, then using a cotton bud ("Q-Tip") squeeze the Future from under the decal, going from the center out. *Doing this I can practically guarantee no decal "lines". *There are some decals, though, that require some extra effort. *I just finished a Roden "ground machine" and its decals required a coat of Solvaset over them to get them to stay down on the Future. *However, most other decals require the Future only, and no other decal setting solution.
