Eduard Fokker DVII(F) -Goering

Hi All,
Being new to WW1 plane modelling, I chose the Eduard weekend kit for my initiations and after a bit of web surfing, some questions came up and I was hoping all the gurus here can help out:
1) Can I assume the engine is incorrect in the kit as it was a Mercedez engine?
2) The painting instructions called for grey bands. Was the plane in all white?
3) There appears to be a cut in the left fuselage to facilitate easy entry and exit for Goering. Is this relevant for this plane?
4) I have contradictory instructions to lengthen the propellers for the quick release prop hub?

Many thanks for any assistance rendered

Greetings ckloo; First welocme to the "Drome".
The F designation is Fokkers method for identifying D.VII airframes as being powered by the BMW IIIa motor. Eduard say Mercedes in their instructions and it is an error on their part. Check the following links for more details. Yes the Heine propellers with the standard hub or the quick release hub are marginally too short for either the Merc. or the BMW.

For your questions try here

Fok. D.VII F = BMW powered

and here
Detailed build.

In answer to your other question, yes the cut out cockpit was present on this machine. The internet is great for answers but I strongly recommend that you look at some of the Windsock Specials, von Richthofens Flying Circus,Fabric Special #1. and also the Osprey series on Aces and Aircraft, Fokker DVII vol 1, and also the Elite Units title on Von Richthofens flying Circus. All contain some info on this bird.
Welcome,
RAGIII

Stephen,
fantastic build log you have there in Aeroscale. I have incorporated most of the modifications but there is one curious point. How do they hang the fuel tanks and the console? Is it welded onto the framework? Is it likely that there are timber panels at that area because there seem to be a lack of any ribbings or rig protusions there on the outer frame.

Anyone can help clarify this?

Here is a bit of fun from that wonderful artist Mark Miller. It may answer some of your questions.

Many thanks to Stephen, RagIII and Sreiko fro the replies.
This is dedicated to you fine folks

completed the above in a 20 hours just to test the nature of the weekend kit. Modified the engines, props and suggested and was quite pleased with the results. Criticisms and comments are most welcomed.

Cheers and happy new year.

About bented panel

Hello,

Quote:

I did. In Roden's D.VII of Bruno Loerzer, though I still have no idea what was the use of this panel.

As for cloo's model - it's superb.

Greetings

Marek
