Roden Albatros D I

I am planning on building the Roden Albatros D I 1/72 kit. I would like to have it painted in the Green/Red Brown wings which were the production batches 421-435/16 and 436-470/16. I am most likely going to do a model of a factory schemed aircraft with no other markings except the iron crosses ect. Are the markings for the aircraft protrayed accurate? Any advise would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Can't comment on the kit decals and colour scheme but Osprey's German Fighter Units 1914 - May 1917 illustrates an early D1. The aircraft is D390/16 from the first production batch and was flown by Lt Hohne, Jasta 2, during September 1916. The upper wings and tail are dark green and reddish brown, under wings are sky blue and fuselage red/brown. Engine panels and struts are grey. A later D11 is simarly painted but you'll have to compare your kit scheme with the book to see if there are any discrepancies. Regards, SteveH

A good out of bottle match for the upper surface colors, Sir, is Pollyscale Acrylic Panzer Brown and RLM 67 Dark Olive Green. I have never yet had to match the undersurface pale blue, but it is a pretty light shade, not too far to the blue side of white, I gather.
