Fokker streaking
My apologies if this is too far off the topic. Was the streaking seen on some early D-VII's applied using the same methods and the same color paint as the treaking on the tripes (i.e. identical)? Thanks..................John

Yes, early production schwerin built aircraft had the streaking until the later D. 3xx/18 series. then the lozenge was used over all from then on. The streaked green colour seems to have been a brighter hue. It seems to have cover the area from Testors Model Master dark green to medium green. Gunsight graphics has streaked decals that fit this subject specifically.

Hi Stephen,
You have streaking behind the fuselage cross of DR.I 502/17. Since there is a remnant of a white cross field in the lower forward corner, I would expect the other three corners to be solid olive from overpainting the cross field. Do you know which is correct?

Here is the Gunsight Graphics streaked decals on an Eduard 1/48 Fokker D.VII fuselage. (Early Schwerin of course.)

streaking
Very helpful, thanks Stephen. I'm an R/C modeller so any streaked paint finish will be brush applied. Not to sustain the diversion from the original subject, but the decals you demonstrate have an almost "bar code" regularity (uniform line width from top to bottom) whereas it seems to me that a hand brushed factory finish would be a bit more unorganized, nicht war?.........John

Hi Stephen,
I also purchased the Gunsight Graphics streaking decals, but have not tried them yet. Did you use a colored basecoat, and if so, what color?

I used a light beige / almond type as a base.

Tonight I finished applying the Microsculpt streaked decals to a set of 1/48 Fok. Dr.I wings. The decals are great to apply. Very tolerant of even the most hamfisted modeler (I should know) and react well to Micro Sol & Set from Krasel industries. Images by the weekend.

Fokker Dr1 streaking
Hi Stephen and all,
I like the look of the new decals but am still struggling to 'understand' the streaking regime on the Fokker Dr1. Having read quite a few articles, including some rather rambling and opaque pieces in 'Windsock', I still do not know whether the pale colour we see in the streaking is simply unpainted doped linen or is actual pale paint (from zinc oxide filler + pigment in the varnish) - the various articles on this seem to suggest one or more pale base coats/streaks (i.e. total coverage of the doped fabric with a tinted and opaque varnish) but, on the other hand, most illustrations (and articles) seem to imply the linen colour.
Please help!
Cheers,
GrahamB
This has probably been explained elsewhere but I do think it does need spelling out.
