Fokker Dr.I streaked camouflage.

Greetings all;

While we all await the new Microsculpt decals for the Fokker Streaking camouflage seen on the production Fokker Dr.I and other Fokker license built products, I thought I would offer a quick look at the layout of this camouflage and what it would take to paint it on a kit. These are two full sets of DML / Dragon wings and some various tail unit and extra elevator & ailerons. Note how each was done as a separate unit. note the angle only covers about two ribspaces on the wings.

Here is a bit of fun concerning 1/48 scale streaking and a further note of how to do it.

Fokker Streaked camouflage 1/48 - painted. At right the base coat is a light almond colour representing unbleached linen. At left the finished Fokker type streaked camouflage. The dark solid fields were for the crosses. It was ordered to bring the factory white fields of the pattee or iron crosses down to a narrow border. With the balkan crosses the border was at first widened then narrowed down in specific ratio later in the war.

Fokker Streaked camouflage 1/48 - painted. Here the finished Fokker type streaked camouflage. The wings were hand painted at the factory and the streaked fields varied from airframe to airframe.

Thanks for posting these photos. It is inspiring me to continue with my Fokkers that have this camo. I have been practicing on scrap plastic but haven't yet perfected the technique. I'm not sure if I'm using the wrong brush type, paint combo or what. If the decals you spoke of come out soon enough, I'll use those instead.

I would not like to argue but.... streaks on each Fokker Dr.I is like fingerprint, not the same. So I am afraid that this can not fit need.

Microsculpt- please do not missunderstand me, you work is really great and I do respect you. Simply I think that this is not way to go. Maybe for specific plane but not as general decal for the type.

Cheers

High Alan,

Add the img title that includes http:. . . .jpg to the aerodrome cut and paste box. To see what I mean check the properties of these images by doing a right click and checking properties.

leave out . . . brackets and the http: from photobucket

Greetings Sreiko!

One thing I have noticed about the new Gunsight Graphics and the prototype Microsculpt streaked decals is that they are large enough (full sheet) that it depends on where you take the the pattern from on the sheet. Its quite easy to avoid duplicating patterns (for one modeler) one build to the next.

Gunsight Graphics review.
