Smile Albatros DII 1/32 Finished!

Hi there,

My Albatros DII D.1782/16 is finally finished. It’s been a most enjoyable build. Made from a Roden Albatros DI kit with a few modifications, an Eduard etch fret and naturally with a wood finish obtained by home made decals.

Details about the build may be seen here: Albatros DII 1/32

The livery is that of Vizefeldwebel Otto Gerbig of Jasta 14. There’s a photograph of it, and him, on page 16 in the Datafile # 100.

This is the reason for choosing to make a DII:

I really like the sleek lines of the low wing lay-out, and I think that the late DII is the finest of the whole Albatros family.

And lastly some fun. Black and white period shots. These I’ve tried to do orthochromatic, making reds and yellows dark and blues and greens light.

Any comments, hints, tips and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking. Now, where is my Wingnut SE5a…..?

Cheers,
Kofoed

Thanks to Dan San Abbott for writing “The Camouflage and Markings of the Albatros DII Aircraft” and for making it available here.

Thanks to P M Grosz and the Windsock Datafile guys for the Datafile # 100 on the Albatros D.I/D.II, and thanks to my son for lending it to me.

Thanks to my son for generously donating the crosses for the top wing from his Wingnut LVG VI decal sheet, and for being an inexhaustible source of positive critique.

Thanks to Bob for making his beautiful Buckles and for making these available to the rest of us.

And last but not least thanks to all on this forum. Without your great inspiration I shouldn’t be where I am today.

Well said, Kofoed. You've taken the inspiration from the Aerodrome, done well by it, and you are now providing your own inspiration to newer (and, for that matter, older!) members. An excellent build!

Kofoed, A very inspirational build for me, as I have a D III in the stash, as well as a few others. The bright liveries of the WWI planes is steadily drawing me in, and seeing builds like this makes it all the more better.
I like the B&W pictures also, very cool!
