Scottie,
I, for one am always glad to see new options in decals. I took a look through some reference material for what I might want and here's my two cents worth.
Bearing in mind your admonition for nothing too complex, I noticed that most Dr I markings were in fact simple. For the most part so simple that it begs the question of whether it would not be better to paint them so as to have a consistency of finish. With a model of that size, things are looked at differently.
What I see a real need for is a set of Balken Kruez markings (although as almost all, if not all were overpainted in the field the painting argument again rears its ugly head) and simply (but most importantly) a set of serial and werke numbers in the correct size and fort from which one could assemble any desired designation.
Other details that would be lovely would be the Factory Plaque found on the right side of the engine cowling and the Fokker logo found on the bottom of the rudder. These are details that should rightly appear on a model of this size.
Let us take for example von Tutchecks Dr I 404/17. This a/c has a white cowling and a black tailsection, from the national marking back and a white rudder. The rest is standard factory camoflage. This is a pretty but straightforward color scheme. In a model of this size one would see all of the above mentioned and also the felt stacking pads, as well as werke numbers and the placement markings (L/O,L/U, R/O R/U) for the wing struts.
If you were to produce a set of these decals I would rank you among my heroes.
Best regards,
Terry Crisp
