Excellent start on the 'Strutter. The scale alone amazes me.

Have a nice holiday, PrzemoL. You have deserved it. And then return refreshed home to continue this fine build.

All the best

The holidays are over.
After return I managed to attach quite nicely the lower wings.

I also corrected the upper fuselage longerons at the tail

I also assembled the observer armament set.

Now it is time for drilling holes for rigging and fitting struts to their sockets.

Toko Sopwith 1 & 1/2 Strutter

Sir, This is an article I have waited a long time to see. I have both the Toko kit in 1/72nd & Roden's in 1/48th ,& hope to make both eventually. Like you I use some of the Part E/B sets, they are my favorites. The latest is for the Siemans- Shuckert D4. I will be following your posts eagerly to the finished model. You work so far is superb. Like others I miss the inclusion of interior photos, because of the etched brass detail. Carl T

I have painted the metal and wood panels (masked) and the CDL bottom surfaces. PC10 to follow.

wing painting

I really like the painting you have done on the undersides so far. Did you preshade the ribs to get the effect that you have? I have never done so yet, but want to get the same effect on several biplane models I have at the sanding & painting stage. I have the 6 Inpact pre WW1 models already assembled and I'd like to do the wing undersides so that they have that lookthrough effect that I've seen in some photos of the BE2c in the museum photos. You are doing such a great job & this old man is learning a lot from following your posts. THANK YOU. Carl T

CarlT, I preshaded the ribs with a black permanent pen, than airbrushed CDL and finally postshaded along the ribs with a mix of clear gloss and dark tan. I do so when the top surface of the wings has a colour like PC10.
As for the full wing transparency effect I do not want to discourage you but in my opinion it is hopeless. Even if you succeed in painting the blurred internal structure elements and possibly the translucing top wing top markings the effect is not good. The point is that in reality this effect is visible when the light comes downwards throught the wing. In your even best painted model the effect will be only visible when your light goes upwards from under the wing and this makes the whole business unrealistic
I have tried my best with Hansa Brandenburg D.I and Sopwith Baby which I showed here at The Drome earlier. And my conclusions are as above

Thank you gentlemen for your kind words, I still cannot fully understand what is so wonderful in my build Anyway, I am glad you like it and promise to show more
