Sorry for the off-topic thread, but I'm new to plastic modeling, and I've exhausted my search abilities. I'm looking for a model kit for the Fairchild C-82 "Packet" in 1:72 or 1:48 scale. I thought perhaps you guys who are more familiar with the current model kit manufactuerers might be able to help me. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an expert on US transports but I've never heard of a kit of the C-82, however ... Italeri does a C-119 which I believe was developed from the C-82.

Depending on your skill maybe you could look at whether a conversion from the C-119 might work.

Thanks for the link, Gordon. I believe I, too, read that the C119 was developed from the C-82. The actual plane I use is probably not critical. I want to build a diorama based on The Flight of the Phoenix. The plane in the book is a Salmon-Rees Skytruck which I understand is a fictitious aircraft. A C-82 was used in the movie version. What would be important to the diorama would be the fact that the aircraft is a twin-boom transport.

I can't remember a C-82 kit either, but try going to this site: - www.hyperscale.com
and posting a question on the aircraft modelling discussion board. Somebody there WILL know.
HTH.

The only "C 119" is the AC 119. But is you go to FINE SCALE MODELLER.COM or write them, they have a ton of references.

But, does anyone know of a 1/48 scale C 123 or C 124 ? Even a 1/72 scale will work.

Actually, the AC-119 is a gunship version of the C-119, developed for use during the Vietnam war. The C-119 is a cargo/troop transport.

Italeri did a C-119G, which may be out of production. There's one on eBay now.

Mach 2 produces a 1/72 C-123, but it looks expensive.

Thank you MS,

I knew that, but remove the guns and guess what, you have a C119. Its just that the AC119 is the only C119 available.
