Revell 1/28th Camel
Hi fellows. I'm gathering my research material to start a build of the old Revell 1/28th Camel kit. Some time back, there was a thread on the kit and what problems with authenticity there might be. I couldn't find it in a search here. Would anyone remember it, or have some advise? Thanks.

Hi,Stoney,
I couldn't find it, either. Perhaps it would be better if you posted specific questions in this thread, and those forumites that have input can guide you. The last time I built the Revell kit was in the 1960's (really!), so my input will be somewhat dated!
Good luck with your build!

Thank trackpad. Nothing specific really. I remember some mention of incorrect lengths of the interplane struts. I use Data Files, so corrections will be evident I assume, but I figure it never hurts to check things out here as well.

Hi Stoney,
As far as my addled memory serves--it is the centre-section (i refuse to call them 'cabane' which seems to be the trend these days) struts that are too long. This gives the upper wing Anhedral---or at the least a serious Bow!!
also out the box it lacks the characteristic--one could say trademark--upsweep of the upper fuse. longeron level at rear---and the tailplanes are flat plate as opposed to symmetrical section. ( Fin/rudder/elevators are o.k. as flat)
also the tailplane profile is wrong--but just needs some careful 'rounding' to correct----best to make a new one though if you want to correct both faults.
The troughs where all struts fit (due to the 'ties' on the struts) are best filled--but in the later builds i did---first built it when it was first released--i removed all wing rib details on lower surfaces, and greatly reduced them on uppers.
Phew!--sorry to go on mate---but plenty of guys here to help out--as you go.
Cheers,
Dave.

Thanks gents! bristol, I'll remedy those faults as I go along. I notices the tail surface to fuselage area you mention is also apparent in the Pup and Tripe as well. A Sopwith thing I think. After I finish the Camel I'm going to do scratch build of a 1/28th Albatros D.Va. I just like the scale. Thanks again guys.

Nice kits. Glad to see that D.VII wing without the downward droop. That's pretty important to get right on that Revell kit!

Hey stoney,
What 4 color lozenge decals did you use on the DVII? The colors look very accurate!

Hi guys. Well.. I used the last of my 1/28th decal sheets from Americal-Gryphon on the D.VII. I sure wish the good Doctor was still in business. I also used his Udet decals on the 1/28th Fokker Dr.I.
On the D.VII I used the articles from Fine Scale Modeler, Jan.'99 and March 2005 in my conversion. It's a pretty good kit, it just need some work, but hey, we're modelers right . It was fun to do. I work slow, but I sure love this stuff.
