Wingnut SE5a in progress
Hi there,
Thought I should share my SE5a build. First I like to say, that the Wingnut fit is excellent. Actually, it’s a bit of an understatement, but I haven’t words for how good it is. Everything snaps together, and many places you don’t even need glue! There is room for everything inside, which isn’t normal to me.
First, here are a couple of pictures of the lovey dashboard. I think it’s brilliantly engineered, no reason to make it more sophisticated than it has to be, and the instrument decals are just perfect.
And the center section with the seat, the pistol, the spare Lewis magazine and the control column:
The fit inside:
And with the lower wing:
Like I said, the fit it excellent. The items here are just dry fitted; yet nothing is falling apart.
I didn’t like to paint the wires inside the cockpit sides, so I sanded them off and replaced them with my Gudebrod thread soaked in superglue, which makes them stiff enough to handle.
Best regards
Kofoed

Here the fuselage has come together, the lower wing and the tail plane are in place:
There is the tail issue. The vertical tail and the rudder have some weak traces of the framing under the linen, as you can see on the unpainted rudder, but nothing close to the real thing seen on period pictures. I have been thinking and testing with putty quite a lot, but these test were no good. So I simply decided to give it up and leave it as it is.
The painting on the fuselage is nearly done, and on the wings the first layers have been applied. The colour is my attempt to hit a late-PC10, and it was made of a Polly Scale Olive Drab with appr. 25 drops of red mixed in it.
Test fit of the unpainted engine, which by the way is a gem, and the Vickers. Again, the fit is stunning. Also the undercarriage fits like a dream, it isn’t even glued on these pictures. Only the wheels have been glued on.

A little more progress, now the engine is finished, the radiator is on and so are the center section struts:
Another imaginary fit issue was the cover plate above the Vickers. Wise from experience I had feared that there would be problems with it, but my worries were in vain. It simply snaps down the recessions and beautifully around the Vickers.
Here’s a close-up of the engine:
The Aldis sight:
And the radiator:
The effect here I achieved by first painting it with a NATO TRI Black. After this was dry, I dipped a worn brush in a Model Master Aluminium Metalizer, leave it to dry and then carefully dry brush it on the radiator. The Vickers had the same treatment and the Lewis shall have it also.

The lower side of the wings I tried to preshade. I painted these with 5 or 6 layers of CDL. Then I ran a cotton bud with some black and brown “dirt” from my Tamia “beauty box” along each side of the rib tapes. Finally I painted one final layer of CDL over it:
The PC10 wrap was hand-painted with a brand new brush.
Finally for now, test fit of the primed 4-bladed propeller:
I’m planning to make this as the RAF built C1057 from 24 Sqn and flown by Lt. Wigan. I just love the inner position of the wing roundels…
All the best for now,
Kofoed

Hello Kofoed,
thanks for sharing. I actually am not a 32nd scale builder, but I simply had to order one of these Wingnut kits, so I ordered one a few weeks ago. yesterday, the postman tried to deliver it, but an extra €20,50 had to be paid, which my wife (who was only one home) did not have with her. Today second attempt and I left the money. Same thing in Denmark? WNW had it delivered to me by different way of shipping then their previous attempts, trying to avoid this. Too bad it did not work, and delivery time was almost 4 weeks.
Back to the model, I will try to do it somewhere in august / september. I am glad to see on your pic's I am not the only one who does not use an airbrush.
Greetings, Nico

Keld,
She is a real beauty.
The PC10 looks great as does the whole model.
Looking forward to seeing her finished.
Cheers,
Von Buckle

Thank you very much, guys.
Ginger, thanks a lot. I'm looking forward too.....
Nico, take care you don't get infected with the 1/32 bug. I am.
In Denmark they first add 25% VAT on the value, and then they put on a fixed fee per parcel, all in all appr. 40€ (!) on a parcel with one kit in. Of course, the more kits in a parcel, the cheaper per kit. Next time I'll order 3.
Glad to meet a fellow brush painter, those airbrushes never tempted me. The "artistic impression" disappears, I think. Thanks for your nice words.
Gregory, thank you very much. I'm sorry I did that (he-he) my friend. But that's how it goes. I had originally settled with the two British Wingnuts, but after seeing Bob's and other's pictures of the LVG, I had to have one of those also.
Bob, thank you very much for your kind words. How is your LVG coming along?
Doug, thank you very much, my friend.
Thanks,
Kofoed
