*The May issue of Flying Scale Models is out now here in the States, and it's a good one. *I love this magazine because of the great coverage of WWI subjects in nearly every issue, and you even get a free set or two of plans with some interesting subjects. *Last issue had a BE2c with a 35.25" wingspan!

*Anyway, this latest issue has one of the most amazing renditions of the Sopwith Snipe I've ever seen. *Done by Pete McDermott, this one has a 108" span and is 28.25% scale. *Utterly fantastic work, down to the wicker seat, every instrument and a rotating Bentley BR2 that freewheels with the propwash. *He's using a Laser 360 V-twin. *This one issue is a must-have for the R/Cers among us, and I'm sure has stuff for the plastic gang too.
Cheers

Lyle,

McDermott's Snipe truly is a work of art. The detail is astonishing! And FSM is an excellent magazine for those who actually like to build the planes they fly. Each issue also has a detailed article on a good candidate for scale modelling, which includes drawings, detail sketches, and "walk around" detail photos. Lot's of WWI content, too. The magazine is an English publication, but those of you in the US can get it through WiseOwl World Wide Publications:

In the US, that is Fine Scale Modeller.

Why 28.25% ?

In their top gun coverage, you all can check out the top of Lyle's head as he was moving my Siemens.

I'm interested in FSM issues that have the plans to WWI planes. I have the DH-2 and the D-VIII plans. Does anyone know what other issues contain WWI plans?

Thanks, Jim

Are several of these WWI plans in the magazine the ones by Peter Rake?

Jim,

Flying Scale Models also published the following WWI plans:

Nieuport 28 by Peter Rake, Mar/Apr '01

Sopwith Triplane by Mike Roach, May/Jun '01

Martinside S1 by Peter Rake, Jul/Aug '01

BE2c by Peter Rake, Mar '02

Sopwith 1915 Gordon Bennett racer by Mike Roach, Apr '02

The Nieuport 28 and sopwith Triplane issues also include 3-view drawings, color profiles, and photos of the planes.

Thank you Mike, I'll have to order a couple!

If anyone else is interested, the DH-2 by Mike Roach is in the Jan/Feb 2001 issue and the Fokker D-VIII by Peter Rake is in the March/April 2000 issue. *Also, I've been told the Nov/Dec 2001 issue has some articles and samples of lozenge.*
