Wingnuts LVG

I though I would post my LVG here on the Drome, I am building this over on ARC WW1 Group Build "Knights of the Sky"... I know that Jamo, would like to see my progress... This is my first WW1 build... I would normally build WW2.

I have started off where the instructions begin, with the cockpit...

My attempt of wood finish, method was done by painting the fuselage with Tamiya's XF59 and then sponging on a fine coat of oil paint. Once dry, I used the same oil paint and added the wood grain. Great tip!! Which you can find on the Wingnut Wings website under the LVG Tips.

Close up of the wood grain...

I started working on the Benz Bz IV engine too..

Upper sections of the wings have been covered with Lozenge, took 4 hours just to do this lot... still have the tail section and the lower parts to yet...

Seat has been weathered, really happy with the dirty leather look I got.

Cockpit has been installed and Fuselage half's have been button up

Cylinders have been painted

I have painted the wood grain on the fuselage and tail, sorry shots aren't that great the paint is fresh and still wet... I will take a some better ones in the next few days after the oil paint has dried.

Looking good Moeggo. Really like how that leather seat looks. Also woodgrain is pretty convincing. Keep it coming.

Hi Dave

Good to see you're back working on the LVG. Nice work and photos! I like the restrained wood grain finish. Is there a dark line down the side of the upper surface lozenge? I haven't got to the upper surface yet but it looks like the lozenge decals need a trim down the long sides. Do you think it will be finished in time for the Model Expo in September? I'm not a fast modeller and working to a deadline can take the fun out of it, so I'm not sure if mine will be finished in time. Do keep posting updates of your build.
Regards
James

Hi James, there is a small line there, but the rib tapes will cover them up. Yes, I am aiming to have it done for the Nationals... I am trying to do a least a hour per night to get her finished.

Very nice work! one suggestion....

you may want to paint the bottom of the cylinder blocks black as well.
The base of the cylinder blocks are molded onto the crankase.
Check the photos on the WNW website for engine reference.

the cylinder is dogged to the case or block and there are some bolts on the outlaying area around the base of the cylinder Doug

Hi Dave
Not trying to be a party-pooper but there shouldn't be any lozenge fabric edges over a rib if the lozenge has been applied correctly. The rib tapes weren't used to cover over the edges of the lozenge fabric, only to reinforce the fabric over the ribs themselves.
