Eduard 1/48 Fokker Dr.I

Hello folks.

Thought to share my latest model with you. Eduard 48 scale Fokker Dr.I. This is my first finished WW1 plane in this scale. It's Jasta 12 Ulrich Neckels plane and I used markings from Pheon Models JGII decal set. Painted with acryls minus streaking camo where I used oil paint. Hope you like it.

Tell us about the Pheon decal applications. Hopefully no problems? Do they react to sol & set or just go down by themselves. Are they a joy to use?

Thank you for your kind comments.

Stephen: Decals went very well. I just follow rules that are written in instructions. Carrier is thin and decals are very thin. You dont need setting agents. Only dip of water underneath to move decal in place. And those don't have to soak in water. Just couple of seconds and after that they come out of paper so decaling is very quick operation. Only side crosses are from eduard sheet, in my eye Pheons cross had just too thin white border. I have to say I'm very pleased about those Pheon Models decals, absolutely my first choise of decals.

Great to see these in use, Mikko and on such a great build as well. I really like your streaking paintwork - some of the best I've seen and I especially like the way in which you have done the top wing spar panel for the inspection stamp - and it's in the right place - Well done with that! You've also caught the right 'sit' of the undercarriage and avoided the 'stalky' look whch some completed Eduard Dr.I models have.

Thanks very much for the detailed email you sent on your experience with using them, I had absolutely no doubts about their effectiveness, although it seems that Stephen did - quite a surprise as he has a set of the Pup decals, although I know he's a very busy man so probably hasn't had the chance to try them yet. Prezmol had no problems with his Sopwith Pup build, Tom Cleaver on Modelingmadness used the SPAD ones with zero difficulty and said so in his review and I've just seen Jim Larkin's use of the SE5a nightfighter decals on Hyperscale and they seem to work as well. I have not recieved a single complaint from any one of the many, many customers who have bought our decals so far, so it seems that people can buy and use them with confidence.

On the issue of the width of the white border to the fuselage crosses, I can understand that you felt that the ones I provided were perhaps a little narrow. Certainly they are narrower than specified by Idfleig, but I believe that they acccord with photos of Jasta 12 Dr.Is where the white of the original cross field has been reduced by overpainting with black. At least that was my intention when I designed the decals. For those who disagree there are always the ones provided in the various kits to use as alternatives, as you have done.

May I use your photographs on the Pheon website when I finally get it running? Obviously I wouldn't do so without your consent, perhaps you could email me?

Thank you Rowan for your kind words. Your decals were joy for use. Especially I liked way they sit on upper wing rib detail. Didn't have to use toothpic. I would be honoured if you want to use my pics on your website.
