Latest Progress and some paint slinging Commences part 1

Hello all,

Here are a few more shots of my latest progress .....things are going together well without much grief to speak of....I always like to use the lightest color for a primer coat in this case CDL to check for any imperfections.......white for the cowl & rudder...........I've got the red match for the rudder tricolor but may need a trip to the hobby shop for a blue match as none that I have are even close and I really don't want to mix it for such a small area...........

Those guns are a treat for the eye. Please do tell how you painted them? Some drybrush too if my eyes do not deceive, eh?

Thanks Mike & Bob!

First I spray paint the guns in an enamel or lacquer flat black, once this is dry I use Winsor & Newton Raw Umber (any tube oil paint will work) with an enamel silver or metallic of your choice do not mix or stir the bottle of metallic as all you want is the silver pigment from the bottom of the bottle, use a tooth pick to gather up a small amount of this put it on a piece of card board next to a small blob of Raw Umber (You want the carrier to be absorbed by the card board so let it sit for a few minutes) When your ready to start dry brushing simply take a small amount of Raw Umber & mix in very small amounts of your metallic I STRESS AGAIN small amounts!
Build up to the look you want by dry brushing with more metallic added each time until you are satisfied with the the look.......I did these guns over a two day period as the next day I had a look and thought the look was a bit to subtle...better than over doing it on the first go!
Another thing I would like to point out is that many of these guns in 1:1 scale were actually painted black, they were not blued so subtly is what you want!
I hope this makes a little sense?

Off to paint something!

Thanks for the kind words Doug,

I've been slinging a bit of white paint! Then masking like a mad man...I have always been a little over-kill on masking as I hate it so much so do not wish to do it but ONCE!
This is why I love Lacquer or Enamel paints so much, no worries about pulling paint up and if you don't go trigger happy on the airbrush really no problems with paint build up....but always paint in order from light to dark....this is why the white pennant running down the spine of the aircraft is sprayed then reversed masked...(Pain in the BUTT I may Add)

Maybe later tonight I can start off with the light green or beige?

I still need to clean up the struts, spreader bar and tail struts.....

Ken

Ken...a white "pennant" down the spine??? This has got to be some special paint job. I'll be watching this one closely.
