Nieuport 28

Hi Kenny:

I am in the final process of finishing up my 1/32nd Nieuport 28. I chose the same scheme as you. I noticed you painted a light blue line around the circumferance of the fuselage behind the cockpit. It looks good. Too bad Superscale didn't show that in their directions. I have mine painted and assembled and am using the EZ Line for the first time. I like it. It is forgiving, I cut the wrong end but due to its ability to stretch, I could salvage it without having to replace it. I made turnbuckles out of brass per Terri's demonstration and am having good success with it. I will post pictures for comparison when I am done. I like your weathering and painting, it looks like I used the same colors as you. I had a heck of a time putting the cockpit in the tube, but then again I scratched the seat and I think I had it a little too high.
Good job. I am looking forward to your finished work.

Hello mgunns,

The blue tape behind the cockpit is a strip of fabric that was doped onto the fuselage to keep the joint flush and could be any color from natural linen to horizon blue....you will also notice once I add the inter-plane struts that the tapes used on the struts is the same blue as on the fuselage....it is blue decal film added after all painting along the joint and the struts. Do you have the Windsock Data-file or another reference? Take a look at the photos....you'll see what I am talking about with the tape....
....I am also using EZ-Line for the first time I like certain things about it hate others but I think that is how I feel about everything I have used for rigging so far!

Thanks for the kind words.....let me know if you have any more questions about the build???

Ken

Nieuport 28

Greetings all: Thanks for the info on the blue tape. I have an enlarged photo of Rickenbacker in a 28 and the tape is clearly visible, I left it off mine as the directions on the decal sheet didn't show it. I have some blue masking tape that I will cut to width and apply it. I don't have the reference material on the 28 that you mentioned, basically relying on the kit instructions and the decal sheet for the info. (I know; bad idea). I too feel the same way about the EZ Line; that being written I like it the best so far. I had to touch up the decals on the cowling. I am not happy with the spacing as I eyeballed it, but overall I am pleased with it.
Terri: I used your turnbuckles idea and like the idea and the execution of the devices. I think next time, I will have less showing. I will be painting them steel in the days to come.
Hopefully the pictures attached will come through. It isn't contest quality, but I don't plan on entering it in any contests, I like it and will eventually do another. I like the scale and the ease of working with it.

Great looking model mgunns

As far as the tape being blue that is just one possibility I'm sure there were plenty of natural doped linen or the Sky's the limit on that one It could have even been doped one of the camo colors???? As far as the cowl rings go I don't think it matters as long as looking at the cowl from the left or right side they are concentric..........And if a contest comes your way just throw it into the ring so to speak and go look at all the other beautiful models there! Just the participation and being able to see others work and chat in person will make you want to rush home a build another kit!

I think Mine is going to be finished today!
