Thinking back to 1998 I took a Best WW1 subject award, and didn't place either. The person who won first place was outraged, and wanted to know why his model wasn't "the best". (Doesn't make much sense does it??) The judges told him they were (quote) "Spreading the awards around". Go figure.
I judged a few of our local and regional contests and just got tired of the "losers" whining to me why their model should have won and Joe Dokes shouldn't have. I stopped judging.
When you look at a WWI subject that is extremely well done where the modeler has gone the extra miles to super detail it; it just really stands out in a crowd of BF-109's and P-51's.
