Put me down as a heretic, or at least no true modeller. *I really can't get worked up about whether a kit is dead accurate or not.

And for many my age it isn't so much the kit itself, but the memories they bring back. *I spent most of my time doing 1/72nd and 1/48th (Airfix, Frog, Revell, Monogram, Lindbergh, Matchbox in the later period), but if you offered me a Revell P2V-7 Neptune I'd probably take your arm off (even though I've got a perfectly good Hasegawa one tucked away awaiting some R.C.A.F. decals (but early or late scheme?)

I'd love to build an Aurora *D-VII or D-VIII, or the Brisfit I never got.

Michael,
They bring back alot of good memories for me too. My spare parts box still has a few remains of some of those kits and coming across one of those old parts... Anyway loved building those Monogram, Revel etc. kits in the 60's and 70's. More good memories. Build what you like, enjoy. If a kit is really awful and you hate it, just move on to one you like, detailed or not. The main thing is to have fun.

I'm in the heretical camp with Michael (the other one). I'm not detail-minded enough to worry about the accuracy of a kit (I think I even have one of the dreaded Glencoe Albatri). For me it's the nostalgia that counts.

So -- even though it's been nearly two decades since I worked on a model -- I continue to hold on to a collection of about 200 unbuilt kits, including a handful of the Aurora 1/48s. I have the Bif, but to my regret do not have the Gotha or the Halberstadt. (And my DH-10 was thrown out long ago, sad to say.)

Speaking of inaccuracies, I have a very old Frog Shackleton whose skin rivets must be almost six (scale) inches high...

I remember that one! You could practically use the wings instead of a file! Heavy as lead, and it was the later model with a tricycle undercarriage. Mine's long gone, but I think I have some b & w negs of my cousin's kids holding that one.

Don't knock it lads, the real Shack looked just like it had been built in a shipyard. The crews I worked on AEW described it as 30,000 rivets flying in loose formation

Speaking stricly about WWI aviation subjects , in 1/72 scale the absolute worst- Cramer Craft Vacuforms - take your pick which one. * In 1/48 scale at least the Merlin Salmson had enough plastic to work with if you cared to do the work. But the worst 1/48 *scale WWI kit of all time....The Marusan Albatros D.III. *I've seen one still in the box.

Forumites, it looks like some one opened it in 1956 shook out a baby's dirty diaper in the box and closed it. This kit was offered to me at 65.00 USD. *I was assured that the kit was factory mint. *I politely said that I suddenly remembered a previous appointment at the dentist for a 5 tooth root canal and left quickly. *I changed my phone number over the matter. *I still have nightmares about the incident and *am still in therapy. *My Doctor said it would be good for me to get it out in the open and discuss it.

I'm feeling much better now ;
