Hello everyone.

As previously hinted at , I am pleased to invite anyone who might be interested, to view the construction of a 1/16th scale model of the Albatros DVa.

http://restorationschool.tripod.com/albatrosonlinebuild/

Some of my pages include images produced by kind permission of Mark Miller, and which have proved to be of immense value in constructing this model.

The site is in its early stages, as is the model, but I will add more as the work progresses.

Hope you find it of some interest.

Scottie,

what kind of model is your Albatros DV? I am interested in doing a similar model, well I'd prefer a balsa wood model W/ laser cut parts similar to the Guillow's models but have yet to find anything locally. Any ideas where I can get a similar model?? Thanks!

Hi Dtenney,

The kit is the "Model Airways" kit produced in the US by Model Expo-I can't recall their exact website, but if you do a search you will find their site. I ordered the kit just before Xmas because it was going for 99 Dollars! A bargain considering everything you get.

The wood is all very strong unlike balsa( it has to be to take the weight of all the castings), but it is still easy to cut and work with.

I certainly would recommend the kit if you are after a high detail model.

Regards Scottie

Ive got a question. I am doing an Airfix 1:72 scale Albatros DVa and I am doing the markings after Lt. Braur of Jasta 19. The fuselage, yellow noses and tail surfaces with a clear doped wood inbetween. Is there any way, decals or wood paneling that will give that model a realistic look? Any ideas? Thanks!

For those building Albatros kits, you may not be aware of the "Albatros cook up project" that was started by the members of the WW1 modeling email list. It's an excellent on-line resource for everything Albatros related. Here's the URL:

Further feedback on the aforementioned kit to those who might be considering buying it:

The Cabane ( centre) wing struts should be identical but mirror image castings- they are not. I haven't decided how I will fix this fault.

The gauges for the machine are cast in white metal but are overscale and have no authentic dial markings. I am experimenting with reducing photograhic images of the actual dials to rectify this fault.

Does anyone know of printed lozenge fabric in 1/16thscale-else I will have to attempt handpainting!!!

Work continues....

Scottie, try this link for 1/16th scale lozenge: http://www.arizonamodels.com/coverings.htm

Your model is looking great.. keep at it! I've had that kit for a while, but can never find the time to sit down and get started on it, too damned many projects. Glad to see you doing so well with it.

Hi Bil,

Thank-you for the link to the 1/16th lozenge patterns. I have downloaded the patterns and am trying it with some samples to see how I can get the best results.

Model is progressing now with wing ribs for lower wings presently under construction.

Other faults to be corrected include the cast metal aft machine gun mounting crossbar - the arms which mount onto the wooden fuselage longerons are too short!

Drat, Drat and double Drat!!!

Still nothing which cannot be fixed.

Bye for now and thanks again.
