Wondering if anyone knows if this kit is accurate as to size,(wingspan,length,etc).....it looks, well, too small. Is it?

should I take the time to do this one,or shall I wait for the Pegasus effort to arrive, since that's likely going to be accurate

Even if the Airfix SPAD 7 is accurate (which I believe it is - the Revell SPAD 13 is actually something like 1/69th scale) you still have to deal with the "washboard" wings.

Personally, I would wait for either the Omega or the Pegasus SPAD 7. I'm pretty sure we'll see the Omega release first, since the next one from Pegasus is the BrisFit. The Omega SPAD 7 should be ready "any day". (If you're in the US government it means the same thing when they say "two weeks" - it's either "two weeks" or it's "two weeks" for a number of months. )

I'm also hoping that MAC gets off their German/A-H kick and gives us both the SPAD 7 and 13. Hey, we can dream, right?

Thanks Matt! I'm surprised the revell Spad XIII is overscale...probably familiarity with that kit is what made me question the Airfix effort.

Recently got a copy of Osprey Publishing "Spad VII aces" and I dearly want to try one or two of the schemes shown!
Probably best to wait until a good kit appears, then.

thanks again!
so many projects,so little time. JimR

Matt,
where can I find details of the Pegasus Bristol Fighter?
I've got a couple of the old Airfix kits which I will pass on if I can get a better model.

In my SPAD VII I've used Academy SPAD 13 wings. I've sanded all "corrugation", and now my wings have smooth surface, but airfoil is maintained. You have to correct ailerons, as 13 had longer than 7.
Airfix fuselage is OK.

I built the Airfix Spad VII. Didn't think the wings were that big a problem after some judicious sanding. The detail of vents, inspection panels, etc. on my kit were virtually non existent, probably because of worn out molds. It took a lot of detailing to rectify that. The tubes from the upper wing gravity tank to the engine were missing and I had to make a part to fit. In spite of all this I ended up with one of my favorite models.

While on the subject; my model was one of Guynemer's "Vieux Charles". The upper wing bears a large number "2" on the left wing and a large REVERSED number "2" on the right one. I followed the instructions on this and I have seen the same scheme illustrated in Phelan's book "Heroes and Aeroplanes of WWI". Can any one re-assure me on this scheme? The reversed number seems like such an unlikely thing to come up with.

Bob

Guynemer's SPAD 7 #254 is preserved in the Musee de l'Air et de l'Espace in France. It does indeed have a reversed '2' on the top right wing. See the following site:

Cliff,
Thank's so much for the verification. It's really aggravating to find out one of your old models is no longer "accurate" in light of the latest research. It would be twice as bad to find out the same on one you just built!
