Hi Mike

I will be asking one of my US brethren to bring one of these over on his next flight. This little package looks a winner to me.

Looking forward to seeing the extra goodies inside.

Cheers,
Bob

Mike...thats the cover photo of the newest Squadron catalog. Only difference is Squadron is offering it for $.04 less that Great Models. Then of course there is S&H.

Not being into large scale WW1 I have to ask...is this a big deal to us modelers?? Hasn't this already been through the mill before?? Is p/e and resin considered an essential upgrade to this kit? Will more of these be sold and(maybe) built than the first release? Is the Squadron/Encore price lower than the Roden release?

Thanks for answering my questions.

Dear Kaiser

Personlly I agree with you. While I miss Crew figure with Aircraft Kits and I do get excited if one is included but I have grown a custom to them not being there.

TO be honest I believe the way youve phrased the question begs back to a little hobby devolpemental history which some old school die hards think maybe neccessary and/or are trying to bring back.

IN the telecommunication industry it would be known as 'Bundling" ie, Home phone service paid for with cable TV, internet and cell service included for one big price instead of lots of individual pricing.

THe Genra does have a history of this sort of packaging that came along to me in a crude sort of way with the Renaissance of WWI 48th scale kits which were infamous for having tiny frets of a few PE parts and occasionaly a resin cast part.

To me these kit makers then did it specifically becuase there was a lack of After Market support for thier product and in an attempt to single thier kits out rather than to be lost in a sea of straight plastic kits.

But As you point out I sort of agree. Many of these details and add ons are optional. They alone do not make or break a good build. In fact their use has a tendacy to complicate and make more difficult what otherwise might be a straight forward and easy build. Not to critizse them just an observation and especially for the average builder.

BUt the big differnece to me is that today there IS a burgeoning Aftermarket industry to fill the once desolate voids of product support. TO me in many ways seperate detail products might ought to be just that so thay may be purcahsed and added to a kit IF so desired.

However I think the whole point here might be to specifilly appeal to those Resin and PE Detail heads as well as beg back to a special time when these sorts of items came with a kit like this albeit in a smaller scale.

There is no argueing with some that the over all value of "bundling" these items with the kit IS a savings for those who would buy each individual "extra" part. In some ways it is a way for those detail oriented to have an OOB kit oriented towards them where every optional extra part and or detail and figure already included for a specific profile.

You see as well they are not picking off the wall rare or generic profiles but extremely popular ones speciifcly assocatied with a well know Ace of the Era.

Is it necessary ? Id have to say no. But that maybe the point. The straight forward Roden Kit is still in porduction and on the market now. SO you can if you truely dont want all that goofy stuff opt to purcahse that one.

What I miss here with this IS while everything is already included with the Kit, I would ALSO as well like to see the special AM Detail parts they developed for the kit avialable Seperately.

SO you could have the option for instance of pick and choosing which particualr details you wanted to add to for instance to your own already purchased Roden kit.

Ima not sure the price differnce btwn GM and Squadron is an issue of much import. These being Squadron, commisioned, produced and distributed kits they are like WGNT sole source and therefore thier price is very well controlled so that even well known discounters like GM have very little to no room to knock them down and still afford to carry them.

Yours Mike

PS it is ALSO the cover artwork for the Encore F.I release.

A slightly different take on this kit. I feel that if one takes the price of the Roden kit, adds PE price, resin enhancements, and a resin figure, the kit offers a great value! If a replacement cowling is included?, even better! Sooo... Anyone buying a first time Voss F1 will benefit greatly. If you already have the Roden kit, the Eduard PE, the Model Cellar Voss Figure,( All which add up to considerably more than the Encore release), then this is certainly not the Value you are looking for! Otherwise a pretty good deal!!! JMHO,
RAGIII

PS. Sorry Mike, you pretty much said the same thing , just took a lot longer, :-)

I'm going to have to get one of these!

Even though I already have the Roden kit, the Eduard PE, and the PART PE, and the Model Cellar Voss Figure....But I do believe the Mike Good sculpting will be hard to beat!

I just wish they would sell the add ons as seperate items - as one who already has a Roden F1 & the Model Cellar Voss figure I really dont see much reason to by the Encore. However if they were going to sell the improved parts like the cowl, tailplane and etched bit I would jump on that.
