What is ?

I working on the Dragon 1/48th Dr.I. What is the rectangle on the upper surface in the center of the top wing ? What color should it be? It's a depression. And should the tires be gray or black? Also here's a contest web site that shows my recently completed project. It's Eduards 1/48th DVa. It took second place. My first WWI entry.

Hello,

This was a celluloid panel sewn to the fabric, allowing sight of stenciling on the main spar, giving details of the date of the wings construction and the works serial number in the form.

Source: Fokker Dr.I Triplane. A World War One legend by Paul Leaman

Tires were light gray or salmon pink as ash was not added to the rubber till the early twenties.

Regards

Marek

Hi Gary,

That was a celluloid covered panel which covered a thin wood oblong , on the top wing spar showing date of spar construction and works serial number.

Cheers,
Dave.

Hello,

Dave,

Never mind. I think two heads are better than one. I mean - too much information is better than no information.

Regards

Marek

Many thanks. WWI modeling has opened up a whole new learning experience. It takes on a whole new assembly process from what I'm used to. Did you see the pic of the DVa?

Hi,

I am rather a part time modeler, so my point of view is not professional. Your Albatros looks fine. Nice painting. I assume that white & brown appearance of the propeller which looks odd a bit, was caused by artificial light.

Cheers

It's a representation of the 'strirated' layered effect-laminations as on all wood props.----more pronounced on German than Allied by use of (I believe this is right) Ash and mahogany--but it looks good to me and is never easy--though some of the guys here make it look easy

Dave.
