Decal removal

Hi, I was recently asked if I knew how to remove decals without damaging the underlying paint. I'm assuming the transfers have been sealed with varnish and I had no idea. Anybody got any tips? Regards, Steve

Hi,Steve,

I use Aeromaster Decal and Paint Remover (8003). To remove a decal, I apply a thin coat of the remover over the decal only, not the surrounding paint surface. I then literally watch it, gently teasing the decal with a trimmed/blunted toothpick, to see when the decal itself softens to the point where it can be rubbed/brushed off. Once it's off, I immediately flush the area with water, and lots of it. The reason for this is that, if you wait too long, the remover will start to attack the paint skin after its sorted out the decal. The name says it all: "Decal and Paint Remover!" Hope this helps a smidge!

If the decal has been sealed (varnished) over, I don't think there's much that can be done to remove it without an entire repaint. First step would be to remove the varnish from the entire model without ruining the paint underneath.

Iam with Dave - No Idea ?

But I have seen "Decal Remover" product in a hobby store once. Id suggest a Google Search to see if you could locate a manufactuer or store like Micro Mark which specializes in hobby tools.

I once removed an entire fuselage worth of Battle Axe Lozenge Decal so I could cover it with a different lozenge Decal.

But it ended up being an easy job completed with Sticky Tape. Apply rub and Pull. Any stubborn small spots and or corners scrapped off with a blunt hobby knife.

Yours Mike
