Hi,Steve,
I use Aeromaster Decal and Paint Remover (8003). To remove a decal, I apply a thin coat of the remover over the decal only, not the surrounding paint surface. I then literally watch it, gently teasing the decal with a trimmed/blunted toothpick, to see when the decal itself softens to the point where it can be rubbed/brushed off. Once it's off, I immediately flush the area with water, and lots of it. The reason for this is that, if you wait too long, the remover will start to attack the paint skin after its sorted out the decal. The name says it all: "Decal
and Paint Remover!" Hope this helps a smidge!
