Fokker D-VIII frame color

I am currently building a 1/4 scale Fokker D-VIII and about to paint the frame. My research shows that it should be a light bluish color. Does anyone know
if there is a ready available paint (Testor, Pactra etc.) with the correct color
for this frame? I have looked at RLM hellblau but it appears too dark.

I do not have the numbers, but I think a light greenish gray is more correct. I have paint chips from Dan San Abbot that I used for my 1/4 scale E.V

Dan and Bookmaker, Thanks.

Bookmaker: I am sorry to read about your maiden flight with your EV. I followed your build of your Balsa USA EV in the RCScalebuilder forum and had various communication with you on that thread. I was a few steps behind you with my build and after a long hiatus I have decided to complete my build before spring. I am already way overboard with the scale aspects of my D-VIII but I don't want make it overly heavy and crash it during my maiden flight. I would therefore appreciate your advise on what you would do differently should you start your build all over again. Was it your decision to use ply on the wing rather than glassing?

Hi Tomas, I forgot which D VII kit/ plan you are building, but in any case, it is extremely important not to let the tail get too heavy. The nose is so darn short, especially if you are building the front at more or less scale length, that just a few ounces at the tail equals a pound at the nose.

I had to add 4 lbs to the front of the firewall to get it to balance. That brought up the total weight to 22 lbs. My "stock" BUSA D VIII weighs 15.5 and flys nicely, but still more like a WW II bird.

I must also say that the G26 was not running at full song on the maiden flight. It probably would have made it if the engine was at peak, however, it would have been iffy. I think it will fly at 20 lbs max. That is my plan to cut the tail weight so I can cut nose weight and get the whole thiong under 20 lbs.

I also added about 3/32" washout under the wing tips. Even though it rolled over when it went in, it did not snap. I think the washout helped.
