one thing if you do use the humbrol, the steel has to be buffed witha q-tip its a buffing metalizer, but is the best steel color I've ever seen so is the metal cote gun metal ,humbrol rules. I do use model master and tamiya colors as well as mrkit recently but humbrol has it on the metalics(metal cote colors) and its blacks. esp. the semi gloss black.I always hated black paint I found it did'nt spread good with a brush, and always seemed clumpy, but not humbrol blacks they smooth out like a layer of future gloss.

Fokker cowling sworls
Gentlemen,
To create the sworls, I used a hollow punch to reduce the size of a pencil eraser then chucked it into my Dremel. It was abrasive enough to lightly etch the sworls on the cowling which I then painted and lightly washed with the same silver slightly darkened.

fokker cowlings
hi folks , i had to give up with the usual multi paint combos for the E111 , sopwith et al . being a turner by trade i knock up cowlings out of oddments of ali , skin the flat panels with bare metal foil and 'sworl' with a pointed piece of wet'n'dry . - an early test on a eduard 1/72 stripdown thingy .sorry about the poo picture , i'm usless with a camera . - the good thing about this system is it's real alloy . if you don't like the effect , just keep going 'till you do !

HI blimp,
so you used an actual piece of aluminum for the cowl? how did you form it into the rounded cowling with correct horseshoe opening? Did you use the plastic cowl as a master to bend the metal around to get the correct kit? sounds like a lot of work but looks good!
