The biographical info on the director Peter Jackson from the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) states that Jackson is a collector of WWI model planes.

5th sentence under the topic "Trivia":
Biography for Peter Jackson

Successful Movie Director + WWI Airplane Hobby = new WWI movie?

If anyone bumps into Mr. Jackson, please ask him to consider filming a WWI aviation movie. We're bone dry out here.

Nice catch, Amy!

Here's another bit I searched up, although a little dated:

I thought I read on this forum not too long ago where someone said he owns some replica WWI aircraft, and the toymania website seems to confirm that. Maybe he'll make a three part, 10-hour epic, with extended edition DVDs....

I caught part of a recent interview with Jackson: Seems he was interested in a re-re-remake of "King Kong."

At least it could have biplanes!

I believe he owns a Camel
In fact, I seem to remember reading somewhere that Gene Dimarco from ORA flew it at an airshow in NZ last summer.

and the cowl fell off

I believe that Jackson is a frequent bidder on e-bay. Unfortunately, I have gone up against him on occasion and have come out second (or third, etc.) best. With the success of the latest movie, he will be unbeatable.

Thanks for the ref -
qn!

That doesn't look like a 130 hp Clerget...no expert, but IS that what a Clerget looks like?

Here's the Good News:
Jackson is relatively young. The flying bug bites deep.
He's got a career to maintain and moves to make - better to time them right and "win" than time them wrong and "lose".
He may be thinking exactly of making a good WW1 movie - a Real Deal.
He may be picking a moment.
The fact that he's A Proud Owner is a good thing.
Be even better if he were also a Proud Flyer - then he'd be guthooked fer shure.

I can't see the engine well enough to tell the make.
But the text says it a Gnome.

Clerget looks some thing like this:

It is a pitty he does not go for more authenticity

Would be a pitty if his triplanes or in the end even Tiger Moths would go with any movie about WWI aviation he might be thinking of!

it is a Gnóme rotary I see in the Camel.
