New French WW I movie

Hi,

Here in Europe there's been made another WW I movie. Un long dimanche de fiancailles.
Seems it is about the men in the trenches, with some aviation scenes in it, and a romantic story of a 'poilu' as the men in the trenches were called and his girlfriend becoming his fiancée.
Would appreciate it if anyone of our French members could tell me more on the movie.

Thanks and best from Johan

Hi Johann:

I had never heard of the movie until you posted this thread so thanks for letting us know. I found information about it at the IBMD site:

Un long dimanche de fiançailles

Cheers, Amy

Thanks Amy,

Seems not to be very flattering for one part. Still, I remain curious, the French have made some good WW I movies in the past, most of the time however on the men in the trenches.

didn't catch this thread earlier, but I read a review for this today

here's a link for a trailer.

other than what looks to be a retrofitted stearman it looks like they did a lovely job with the cinematography

I liked the trailer, but how in the heck could you throw a grenade straight up in the air only to hit a German Albatros C.III?

I wondered about that gernade shot, too. It looked pretty far-fetched. The music in the trailer was from "The Edge", a survival film that takes place in the Alaskan wilds (and as an aside, has a convincing plane crash sequence in it). I don't know if the film makers will use that music in the film itself, though.

And besides that, the whole airplane would have virtually been decinagrated.

Despite the high probability that there will be aviation irregularities, as all films with any representation of aviation seem to be fraught, it could turn out to be a movie worth watching.
I've seen several films starring Audrey Tautou and they were all worth watching.
