The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell

The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell (1955) was aired on Friday, 8 pm, on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Unfortunately, I learned about it too late to post a notice here.

It will be repeated on TCM at 10:15 pm (Eastern time, USA), April 17, 2005. The film has a number of shots of DeHavilland DH-4's; I don't know if they were originals or replicas. It also mentions that by 1925, nearly all of U.S. Army Air Service's serious accidents involved WWI leftovers.

I enjoyed it

I happened to see it the other night too (for the very first time). I enjoyed the film. The DH-4 seemed to be the star, but there were a few Jennys included as well. I don't know of anyone who built DH4 and Jenny replicas as early as the 1950s, so I would guess that the airplanes used in the flying shots were originals. One of them had a nose that looked somewhat like a Ranger powered Fairchild 24. Does anyone out there know who did the flying for this film?

It is nice to know that there are old flying films around that some of us still haven't seen yet.

Gotta love the idea of Jennies dropping those 1,000-pound bombs! Anything's possible in Hollywood...

Jenny bombers

Yes Barrett I agree, but even so, it was exciting to flick on the TV to find old color footage of real Jennys and a DH4 flying around.

The courtroom battle between what was right and what wasn't right was enjoyable too, and I generally don't like court related films.

I was luck to catch this movie...it was good. anyone see the Tiger Moth ? And those last bombs were 2000 pounders. But the DH 4's were great.

There was another movie filmed in the late 30's about the US Navy bombing Pearl Harbor with carrier a/c.
