Movie
Baldeagle,
Congratulations on your movie role! It sounds as if it will be a great experience no matter how the movie itself comes out. Please keep us updated on its progress.
Whenever I see video of planes in the air, I have a much better appreciation of what the WW1 aviators saw from their cockpits (since I don't fly myself). For instance, the famous Dr. 1 triplane was really a small different looking aircraft and I think, one that would instantly catch my attention.
Just love to see the old planes flying!

Yeah, anyway. I'm not sure why there are some posts about the 94th U.S. Aero Squadron. The Lafayette Escadrille became the U.S. 103rd Aero Squadron. Maybe that's the confusion. *shrug*

Reno is too old for Lufbery, I'm guessing he'll play the Thennault character.
|
Well, he's a fine actor. I've enjoyed every film I've seen him in.

Wow... Can hardly wait. This should be anawsome movie.
As for accuracy vs. Hollywood. I spend my money to be entertained first. Audiences are more astute than they were in the 30's so there has to be some level of accuracy or the whole thing gets silly, but you also have to be realistic about how far you can go on the accuracy level. I don't think anyone is going to buy a C-130 standing in for a Gotha, then again I'm more than willing to accept composite characters if they tell a good story.

Finally. I hope it's got tons of dogfight shots. It better be really good. More widespread popularity of WWI aviation would be a good thing. If it's bad, that'll be a shame.

"Audiences are more astrute" ? I bet most the audiences wouldn't know WWI from the Korean war. Or a SPAD from an F 14. They go to the movies to be entertained. And the pop corn.
Who is this Reno guy?

You've probably seen him. He's pretty prolific:

A good fictional account should be a thorough mix of historical accuracy and composite characters, with the occasional famous person thrown in for a sense of time and place. In The Blue Max, there was the Baron, etc...This should be a pretty good movie, if they use enough real planes and don't screw up the dialogue by modernizing the slang. And Reno would be great in anything. Loved him as The Cleaner in "La Femme Nikita"...

No idea when the movie will come out. Filming should be completed sometime this summer, I think.
Test flew the Nieuport 17 in Florida on Monday, and finished flying off it's 5 hour time yesterday. Pretty typical of a lot of WW1 types, tail heavy, fairly slow ailerons (compared with modern types) with a lot of adverse yaw, takes a lot of rudder to do things. It and the Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter are going into shipping containers now for their trip to England. Will try to post some photos.
