New WW1 fighter pilot movie
News has started to leak out, so I guess I can confirm here that the WW1 flying movie that we've all been talking about is about to begin filming. It's loosely based on the story of the Lafayette Escadrille, although most of the characters are composites. Many of the events in the script are accurate, and there is plenty of action and plenty of flying. The main stars of the movie (to me) will be two Warner powered Nieuport 17s and one Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter (with 220 Continental). There will also be four ultralight style full size Nieuports used as background, and a number of German aircraft as adversarys. One of the producers is Dean Devlin, who made "Independance Day" and "The Patriot", so there is experience with both CGI and historical drama. The director is Tony Bill, who won an Academy Award for "The Sting", and who is a pilot, and a heck of a nice guy.
Filming will be in England, and will begin soon. I'm to be one of the pilots...

That's excellent news, Bald Eagle!
Things sound promising, and you get to be a movie star! You'll have to tell us more when you can, so we can look for you when the film is released.
Having read the article: is Jean Reno going to be Lufbery?
Regards,

Hollywood and WW1 Aviation. Oh dear....
So a film about WW1 with a heavy slant towards the Hat in Ring brigade.(surprise). Why not the RFC and Bloody April? I suppose its cast will again wear those silly 1960's biker goggles. But remember what Udet said to a Hollywood producer about a possible film on Richthofen. "Richthofen is bigger than Hollywood".
True.

Baldeagle,
Congratulations on scoring the job. They don't happen to need any more pilots do they

Wow, some cynics. That would be the Indian Head gang, not the Hat-in-the-Ring brigade. And maybe you should wait and see if we wear '60s biker goggles. And Udet was quite wrong, if he said that.
Reno is too old for Lufbery, I'm guessing he'll play the Thennault character.
The Sopwith was built by Ron Arganbright, went to Frank Ryder but had engine problems and was never flown. It's in Florida now with a new owner. We're meeting at 7AM tomorrow to test fly it.
