I'm not sure of the exact time line, but the Flyboys script was first seen by the producers about 6 years ago. Most of the time since was taken up in finding financing, filming started in April of 2005, and was finished I think in early August. I was in England with the aerial unit from May 2 until the end of July. Editing took until a few weeks ago, now it's on to PR, distribution, and release.

I am EAGERLY awaiting this film. This one looks like a winner.

I've got a bad feeling about this...
I'm kinda cringing over all the all red triplanes and a romantic sub-plot for half the movie . I guess we'll have to wait and see.

That doesn't bother me too much as long as the flying is good and the female love interest is pretty.
I'm not hard to please.
And anyway, I already know that the movie isn't a documentary about the Lafayette Escadrille.

Agreed. Good flying scenes will be the make or break for me. As a pilot thats the main draw behind an aviation film (be it BoB, TBM or any of the other greats).
Always better places to find serious history than at the movies (although if someone could combine great aerial scenes and good historical detail you wouldn't hear any complaints from me).

I rarely go to the movies although I will doubtlessly see this one. I think the only realistic approach is to expect a good movie and not historical detailing. If its enjoyable and contributes to an increased appreciation of early aviation to at least a portion of the general public its a step in the right direction.
Now to nitpick- I noticed on bald eagle's link it is mentioned that among the Escadrilles more "famous members" was Jimmy Doolittle.True, true- but it was "a" Jimmy Doolittle, not THE Jimmy Doolittle. I was wondering if the writer was just unawre or applying a wee bit of the salesmanship....?
